$200,000 donated to preserve historical land
The EnergySolutions Environmental Foundation has contributed $200,000 to Utah Open Lands to help preserve Perkins Flat up Immigration Canyon.
The meadow east of Ruth's Diner is home to a variety of wildlife vegetation and has an extremely complex ecosystem. Much of the land preserved is located on a Hillside. However, 28 acres where pioneers camped before entering the Salt Lake Valley is also part of the land that will now be preserved.
"Part of why the foundation was established was to preserve Utah's environment, and this was a great opportunity," said Fraser Bullock, chairman of the Foundation Board. "Preserving land that has the historical significance of being part of the Mormon Pioneer Trail and designated as a scenic byway for generations to enjoy is, a great chance for the foundation to make a difference in our state."
Salt Lake County, the McAllister Foundation, Immigration Canyon residents and others all contributed to the purchase of this land.
The EnergySolutions Environmental Foundation was established to fund projects dedicated to the preservation, conservation and responsible recreational use of Utah's environment for the benefit of current and future generations.
